What a privilege
As a team we have been keen to have Francis Chan at Newday for a few years now and earlier this year I received confirmation Francis had agreed to speak at Newday (Thanks to Rob & Liz Glover at Care for Children for using their relationship with Francis & Lisa enabling us to have them at Newday).
We are super excited to have them both with us and are really praying for a significant time for both all of you and for Francis & Lisa themselves.
Background
Francis is an American preacher formerly the teaching pastor of Cornerstone Community Church in Simi Valley, California, a church he and Lisa started in 1994. He is also the Founder and Chancellor of Eternity Bible College. A best selling author of the books such as, Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God, which came out in 2009, and most recently, You and Me Forever: Marriage in Light of Eternity, which came out in 2014.
Francis was born in San Francisco to native Chinese parents. His mother tongue is Cantonese.
When Francis was younger he was active in Christian youth groups, which helped develop his faith in Christ and his interest in ministry. Before becoming a pastor, Francis worked for a variety of employers including Taco Bell & Mic Pizza, so don’t be surprised to see him serving in our food court this year.
Francis is married to Lisa. They have seven (yes 7) wonderful children – that’s more than Stephen & Emma Dawson!!
Francis is an ambassador for Care for Children, which works alongside the Chinese government in placing disabled, and under privileged children into loving foster care families within China. He speaks very passionately about showing Gods love through the actions we take and how we should as Christians seek to serve the poor.
What to expect
Faith filled, challenging stories pointing to Jesus. Francis will be passionate about living a radical life for Jesus with no compromise, seeking Justice for the poor and under-privileged will be a strong them alongside a call to prayer. He will be lead by the spirit and draw those who don’t yet know Jesus to a point of decision.
I really encourage you to come prepared to have your life challenged and expectant for God to speak to you through this man.
